James Tyner
James Tyner discovered poetry by accident while in college.
The class he wanted was full, and the only thing that fit his schedule was a poetry workshop.
During that semester, he fell in love with it, and has kept writing poems ever since.
Tyner has won several awards for his poetry, including the Andres Montoya Scholarship, the Larry Levis Prize in poetry, the Ernesto Trejo Prize, was a semi-finalist for the Ruth Lilly Fellowship award. He was invited to join the Phi Kappa Phi fraternity, and has received a Graduate Fellowship as well.
Tyner’s work tends towards the urban, highlighting the violence, love, and struggles in everyday life.
He is currently in his second year in the MFA program for creative writing at Fresno State.
As always, his work is dedicated to his Wife.
